J A Burke Construction Ltd are pleased to announce we will be running the Simplyhealth Great Birmingham 10K run on 26/05/2019.

We have signed up a group of 16 to participate in the run (some will likely be walking, although we won’t discriminate)

What started out as a bit of a joke in the office soon escalated into a full blown ‘Let’s do this for Charity’ and ‘get everyone involved’… call it ‘team building’ if you will.

We also wanted it to be more than just about the run itself so have set ourselves the challenge of raising money for an organisation called the Lighthouse Club, and this is where we need your help.

Lighthouse Club

The Lighthouse Club is the only charity that provide financial and emotional support to the construction community and their families who have suffered an injury or long-term illness, or simply need a helping hand.

The Charity receive no public funding and rely solely on the generosity of those within the industry to help continue their vital work.

“Did you know that EVERY single working day in the UK two construction workers take their own life, and that stress, anxiety and depression accounts for a fifth of all work-related illness?”

The statistics speak for themselves and show that there is still much work to be done to improve the safety and emotional wellbeing of those working in the construction community, but this can only be done with the help and support of generous donations.

This is a charity that is linked closely to the work we carry out as a company and those we work for. We have set ourselves the target of raising £5000.00 and we need your help.

Any donations small or large will be welcomed. As most of you who hopefully read this will also work in the same industry lets help make a small change and raise as much awareness as possible. Let’s also try and smash the £5000.00 target.

In Memory

In memory of close family friend Mark Handford

JustGiving

As well as raising money for charity, we will be running in memory of JAB colleague and close family friend Mark Handford.

This year will mark the 10-year anniversary of Mark’s tragic passing. Mark was sadly taken from us on what would be considered any normal working day for most of us, he was only 22 years old. It is something that most of never think will happen, yet sadly it does.

Statistics from the Lighthouse Club show that on average 38 fatalities occur on building sites every year. The impact that Mark’s death has had on the lives of his family and those that knew him cannot be put in to words.

It is an unfortunate anniversary to commemorate, yet we wanted to do something to mark the occasion. Mark is always in our thoughts and not a day goes by where we do not think of him.

Although Mark’s death and the Lighthouse Club charity are individual to JAB, we wanted to raise awareness for an organisation that helps those who have been similarly affected as those within our company and the industry we work in.

With Your generosity let’s try and smash the target we have set.
