Project – Interdisciplinary Biomedical Research Building (IBRB)

This new building is part of many new developments within the University of Warwick Campus. The IBRB will be a flagship building for the Campus, being promoted as a world class facility. Once complete it will provide a hub for research and learning, with office and support accommodation, along with links in keeping to the existing landscape.

Following a successful partnership delivering The Sports Hub at UoW, Willmott Dixon Construction have awarded J A Burke the groundworks package to deliver this prestigious scheme.

Enabling works to the project commenced beginning of January 2019. The enabling works package comprised of extensive STATS diversions & the construction of a new cycle way with 5,000 ton of imported fill supported by an RC Swale wall and Legato block retaining wall.

Main works commenced April 2019 including cut and fill, contiguous, bored and sheet piling to the perimeter of the building footprint. J A Burke have continued groundworks package of construction of the new building foundations, ground floor RC Pile Caps, beams & slab, RC Capping beam and Retaining walls, all storm and foul drainage including storm outfall & attenuation. The project completion is expected Autumn 2020.

Main challenges:

  • Delivering the scheme with challenging Site Logistics & constraints
  • Working with WDC to progress the scheme with design evolving to achieve the original programme dates

Works are being carried out on a full labour, plant and material basis including full time site management and engineering.
